Keyword Density Explained: How Much Is Too Much?
Keyword density is how often a word or phrase appears compared with the total words: (keyword count ÷ total words) × 100. There is no perfect percentage – Google ranks helpful, natural content. Use the free Keyword Density Checker on a URL or pasted text to spot repetition and see which phrases dominate.

Datos clave
- Formula: keyword count ÷ total words × 100
- No official "ideal" density from Google
- Checker works on a live URL or pasted text
- Keyword stuffing can hurt rankings
Worked example
🔑 A 1,200-word guide uses "compress pdf" 12 times: 12 ÷ 1,200 × 100 = 1%. That is natural. If the same guide used it 60 times (5%), most sentences would repeat it – readers notice, and so does Google.
Check density – step by step
✓Step 1: Choose URL or text
Open the Keyword Density Checker and enter a page URL or paste your draft.
Step 2: Run the check
The tool counts one-, two- and three-word phrases.
Step 3: Read the top phrases
See which words and phrases appear most and their percentages.
How to read the results

| What you see | What it means | Action |
|---|---|---|
| Main keyword near the top | Page is clearly about the topic | Nothing to change |
| Main keyword missing | Topic may be unclear | Mention it in title, H1 and intro |
| One phrase far above everything else | Possible stuffing | Replace some uses with synonyms |
| Filler words dominate | Content is thin or generic | Add specific, useful detail |
Write naturally instead
✓- Use the main keyword in the title, H1, first paragraph and URL.
- Use variations: "shrink a PDF", "reduce PDF size", "make a PDF smaller".
- Answer related questions people ask.
- Read the text aloud – if it sounds robotic, rewrite it.

Preguntas frecuentes
What is a good keyword density?
There is no ideal percentage. Google has never published one. Write naturally; if a phrase sounds repetitive when read aloud, it is too much.
How is keyword density calculated?
(Times the keyword appears ÷ total words) × 100. A keyword used 10 times in 1,000 words has 1% density.
Can I check a live page?
Yes. Enter a URL, or paste text you are still writing.
What is keyword stuffing?
Repeating keywords unnaturally to manipulate rankings. Google treats it as spam and it can hurt rankings.
Is density still useful?
As a check, yes – it reveals accidental repetition and shows which phrases dominate a page.
What should I do instead of repeating the keyword?
Use synonyms, related phrases and answer related questions – that covers the topic more fully.
